Manual physical therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy provided with the hands in contrast to a device or machine. In conjunction with therapeutic exercise, manual therapy is the most important part of physical therapy, helping patients decrease pain, regain range of motion and return to a normal level of activity. Manual therapy is not limited to a specific part of a body – any joint or muscle can actively be treated.
The main goal of hands-on therapy is mobilizing soft tissue and joints, improving muscle function, relaxing tense muscles, reducing soft tissue swelling, inflammation, or movement restriction, and increasing blood flow to injured areas. Physical therapists use a hands-on approach to accelerate patients\u2019 recovery from injuries, decrease chronic pain and support perioperative rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
