Insurance Terminology
All patients scheduling their Initial Evaluation at PDR are asked to provide insurance plan information. We verify insurance coverage before the beginning of treatment and keep our patients up to date about their benefits. Every patient who starts treatment at our Clinic is always aware of possible co-payments, deductible amounts, or co-insurance that needs to be covered.
To help our patients better understand terminology related to their insurance benefits, here are explanations of three important terms that represent the portion of the medical bill that they are responsible for.
Deductible – it is a fixed amount that you may have to pay every year out of your own pocket before the insurance will cover the remaining, eligible expenses.
Coinsurance – the percentage of costs of a covered health care service you pay (20%, for example) after you’ve paid your deductible.
Copayment – a fixed amount of money you have to pay with each visit.
